Language Matters

This two-hour interactive workshop helps participants understand how the words we use can either promote equity and inclusivity or perpetuate biases and inequities. Using JFF’s Language Matters Guide, we’ll explore how to talk about people and systems in a way that promotes respect. Participants will learn how to use people-first language rather than deficit-oriented labels, and they will leave with a plan to encourage the use of fair and respectful language in their workplaces.

Recruiting Talent

This two-hour instructor-led workshop is designed to help employers improve their ability to attract, recruit, and assess job candidates who have records of arrest, conviction, or incarceration. Participants will explore effective recruiting channels and methods for building partnerships with organizations that can help meet talent needs. The workshop concludes with a discussion of actionable next steps for the participants’ organizations.

Internal Communications to Support Your Fair Chance Hiring Strategy

In this two-hour workshop, we’ll explore the importance of effectively sharing information about your fair chance hiring program within your organization. Participants will review examples of statements that corporate leaders can issue and learn to craft their own messages. They will also learn how beneficial it can be to share the stories of individuals with lived experiences of arrest, conviction, or incarceration. Attendees will identify key stakeholders in their organizations who are among the audiences it’s most important to engage, including senior leadership, hiring managers, and the HR and legal teams. They will also develop fair chance hiring value propositions that help colleagues understand how this approach to recruiting and hiring can benefit the organization.

Identifying Stakeholders

In this two-hour workshop, we’ll help you identify everyone who has a stake in the success of your fair chance hiring program. We’ll guide you through the process of mapping out which teams will interact with employees hired through the fair chance program and help you create a clear RACI structure that shows who is responsible and accountable for the program and who needs to be consulted and informed about it.

Make the Case, and Close the Deal

This two-hour workshop helps participants compile valuable data about the ROI of fair chance hiring initiatives to counter concerns that stakeholders like senior leaders, hiring managers, and the HR and legal teams may have about what they perceive as possible risks of hiring people with records. We will introduce a framework for making a strong case for fair chance hiring and guide you through the process of creating an outline for a presentation to leadership that communicates the benefits effectively.
