In a recent analysis of the status of U.S. House legislation reauthorizing the National Apprenticeship Act (NAA), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) tapped JFF’s Eric Seleznow for expert insight.
The legislation, which represents the first update of the NAA since it was originally signed into law more than 80 years ago, would authorize $3.5 billion in new spending over the next five years for Registered Apprenticeships managed by the U.S. Department of Labor and the states. In addition to that investment, it would codify standards and expand apprenticeship to new communities and industries.
Seleznow, a senior advisor with the JFF Center for Apprenticeship & Work-Based Learning, told SHRM the proposed investment in apprenticeship would help employers that are launching or expanding apprenticeship programs.
He praised apprenticeship as an effective approach to workforce development. “The registered system has been around for 100 years,” he said. “It’s a solid, proven system.”
