Resume-Building Tool: Skill My Resume

Create skills-based resumes that highlight the skills employers are looking for
Build Your Resume

Would you like to create compelling resumes that highlight the skills employers are looking for? You can do that with Skill My Resume, a free resume-building tool from the Rework America Alliance.

Created in partnership with Lightcast, Skill My Resume makes it possible to tailor individual resumes to specific jobs.

Whether you’re a job hunter creating a resume for yourself or a job coach or guidance counselor helping jobseekers or students connect with employers, the Rework America Alliance’s resume-builder and optimizer will be a valuable addition to your toolkit. Skill My Resume makes it possible to create resumes that show employers the full set of skills a candidate has, regardless of where or how they acquired them—in school or short-term training programs, at previous jobs, in the military, or through volunteer work or everyday life experiences. It also enables you to highlight skills acquired in one industry that are useful in other fields and other lines of work—in language employers understand.

The Rework America Alliance developed Skill My Resume in collaboration with Lightcast as a free resource that career counselors and other professionals nationwide could use to better serve workers in their communities.

The Rework America Alliance also works with employers to help them better recognize the capabilities that job candidates present using this resume-building tool.

The new resume tool provides an opportunity for a coach to work with learners or jobseekers to understand their skill sets and spur a conversation about how to clearly articulate those skill sets. The resume builder can be a teaching tool for generating ideas on how to identify and communicate skills, and it supports the creation of a strong skills-based resume. This tool will help jobseekers be accurate and effective as they tailor and build their resumes for future employment opportunities.

How it Works:

  1. Enter personal info, job history, and other experiences to create a basic resume.
  2. Skill My Resume will use that information to create a skills-based resume that shows the skills a candidate has acquired at work, in school, and through other life experiences.
  3. Customize the resume by adding other skills the tool suggests based on the specific job the resume is designed for.
