Linking High School, College, and Career in Boston

Today's high school students need to graduate with skills and knowledge relevant to jobs that may not yet exist. Charlestown High School in Massachusetts' Early College and Career Pathways program builds that connection between high school, college, and future careers. It offers three pathways for students: C-Town Business, C-Town Technology, and C-Town Health.

Launched in the fall of 2015, C-Town Pathways is a dynamic partnership among Boston Public Schools, Bunker Hill Community College, Boston Private Industry Council, the city of Boston, JFF, and global software company SAP. JFF provides strategic support—everything from convening partners and synthesizing data to state advocacy and outreach to funders and employers.

C-Town Pathways students learn cross-cutting skills and knowledge that will enable them to succeed in many different industries,. Through the pathway, they take college-level career-related and general education courses that count toward a postsecondary degree, explore potential careers in Boston's high-demand sectors, and are connected to local mentors at SAP.

When Jobs for the Future came to us with the idea of partnering with SAP to begin C-Town Tech, we thought 'This is it. This is the opportunity to pilot a program.' C-Town Tech is really a leveler. It believes in students' ability to learn, regardless of background.
