States and districts need to accelerate the adoption of a high-quality system of assessments that will measure the competencies that count for future employers.
For Education Week, Lexi Barrett, JFF's senior director of national education policy, wrote an article about the need for assessment systems in schools. She posits that a high-quality system of this sort would allow learners to gain mastery of skills that today's employers are looking for—problem solving and critical thinking, for example.
