By adopting high-quality performance assessments, districts and states can ease their over-reliance on standardized tests and balance their systems of assessment.
Lexi Barrett, senior director of national education policy at JFF, and Stephanie Krauss, director of special projects at JFF and CASEL CSI advisor, co-wrote an article for the Measuring SEL blog about the importance of social-emotional and deeper learning, skillsets that standardized tests just aren't equipped to properly measure.
These staffers suggest (and research supports their conclusion) that a "comprehensive system of assessments" is what schools need to implement in order to gauge students' every capability.
