With the support of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship Building America grant program, Jobs for the Future (JFF), in partnership with a number of organizations that have apprenticeship expertise, has launched an effort to increase equitable Registered Apprenticeship opportunities for young people ages 16-24.

The initiative, called Next-Generation Apprenticeship for Next-Generation Talent (NGA+T), envisions a workforce and education system in which all young people in the United States have improved and equitable awareness of and access to career opportunities that begin with pre-apprenticeship and Registered Apprenticeship training.

JFF is doing the following to make that vision a reality:

  • Establishing and expanding partnerships to build pre-apprenticeship and Registered Apprenticeship programs for in-school and out-of-school youth
  • Preparing 1,000 young people to enter and succeed in pre-apprenticeship and Registered Apprenticeship opportunities, especially those who are members of populations that are underrepresented in Registered Apprenticeship
  • Increasing awareness of Registered Apprenticeship among youth, parents, educators, community leaders, and employers
