Alexander Afranie is a policy associate on JFF’s Federal Policy Team in Washington, DC. He is responsible for providing administrative support to the Policy Team as well as analysis, research, and external engagement support to aid the team in advancing JFF’s education and workforce development policy priorities.
Before coming to JFF, Alex was a staff assistant to U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA). In that role, he managed constituent communications and front-desk operations. He also assisted legislative staff with research and in drafting constituent response letters.
Alex is a member of the National Urban League’s Thursday Network, an organization of young professionals that supports the league’s programs serving the Greater Washington Metro area through community service and economic empowerment.
He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with bachelor’s degrees in political science and philosophy.
