Adelina Garcia is a program manager on JFF’s High School Through College team. She supports the University Park Campus School Institute in its work to prepare small-school developers, leaders, and teachers to implement the strategies and techniques that have helped students at University Park Campus School achieve college readiness. UPCS, a nationally recognized grade 7-12 school in Worcester, Massachusetts, serves as a model school and training site.

Ms. Garcia’s professional experience is grounded in research, policy, and practice. Before coming to JFF, she conducted research as an intern for the Nellie Mae Education Foundation, assisted two senators in the Washington State legislature, and served as assistant director for the Eastern Washington University Academic Support Center. Her tasks at EWU included advising low-income, first-generation college students in the TRiO Student Support Services program and implementing an early warning system designed to track the progress of students at risk of failing. She served as a public policy fellow for the Education Trust through the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in Washington, DC.

Ms. Garcia has also assisted low-income high school students through the TRiO Upward Bound program at Yakima Valley Community College, where she helped improve college access. Under the auspices of the Association of Washington School Principals, she worked closely with bilingual high school students each summer in a weeklong residential camp designed to develop their leadership potential.

Ms. Garcia has a Master’s of Education in human development and psychology from Harvard University and a Bachelor’s in philosophy and Spanish from the University of Washington.
