Learning Outside the Lines: Six Innovative Programs That Reach Youth

Whether inside or out of school, voluntary or for credit, the programs profiled garner both deep engagement and high achievement from young people, helping them find pleasure in the right things. All build upon fundamental needs of adolescents: to improve the world around them, to feel respected and connected, to construct their own narrative. All help youth become persistent and confident learners. Learning Outside the Lines results from a collaboration among the Kellogg Foundation, What Kids Can Do, and JFF—along with a shared determination to bring new resources and ideas to the education of our nation's young people.
