Eric D. Fingerhut Will Serve As Senior Fellow
BOSTON, MA (March 14, 2011) — Eric D. Fingerhut, former chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, will join Jobs for the Future (JFF) as Senior Fellow, the Boston-based nonprofit organization announced today. Fingerhut will advise on higher education policies and practices. He will begin his new role effective immediately.
Fingerhut, a former state senator and U.S. congressman, was appointed chancellor by former Governor Ted Strickland in March 2007—the first chancellor to serve as a member of the governor’s cabinet. Fingerhut announced last month that he would leave his post effective March 13.
“Eric possesses a clear vision of the issues that face higher education in America today,” said Marlene B. Seltzer, president and CEO of JFF. “His tireless work in developing a long-term strategic plan for the Ohio higher education system is proof of his commitment and passion for improving educational opportunities for low-income youth and adults.”
“I have long been an admirer of the work done by JFF in developing opportunities for America’s youth and low-skilled adults,” said Fingerhut. “They are well known nationally for their policy efforts in education and workforce development and I look forward to beginning my work with them today.”
As chancellor, Fingerhut led the University System of Ohio, one of the largest comprehensive systems of higher education in the nation—including 14 universities, 23 community colleges, 41 adult workforce centers, and 65 adult literacy programs. Fingerhut authored and implemented the Strategic Plan for Higher Education in Ohio: 2008-2017, a key element of which was to align the state’s non-credit certificate and literacy programs with credit-based programs.
Working in over 200 communities in 41 states, JFF improves the pathways leading from high school to college to family-sustaining careers by identifying and developing education and
workforce strategies that expand opportunity for youth and adults who are struggling to advance.
