In Memoriam: Arthur H. White

Jobs for the Future is deeply saddened by the loss of our co-founder and colleague Arthur H. White, a highly respected business executive and social activist.

In response to the growing challenges faced by Connecticut businesses in finding skilled workers, Mr. White led the formation of Jobs for Connecticut’s Future in 1983. Through his leadership and vision, the organization quickly expanded, and today Jobs for the Future is working in 23 states to help people get the skills needed to move into well-paying jobs. Mr. White remained actively involved in JFF as a member of the Board and had a significant impact in guiding our growth.

In 1966, Mr. White was one of the co-founders of Reading is Fundamental, which continues to be a leading advocate for childhood literacy. He advocated for reading literacy throughout his life, founding several Connecticut-based literacy initiatives.

Mr. White was also a pioneer in the field of market research. He co-founded the firm of Yankelovich, Skelly, and White in 1959, which went on to become one of the nation’s leading public opinion research firms.

The staff and Board of Jobs for the Future extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Vivien, son Joe, and the White family. He will be dearly missed.
