Tiffany Smith is a director at Jobs for the Future and a member of the Building Economic Opportunity Group. In this role, she delivers workforce development solutions to improve the employment success of JFF target populations by providing labor market information (LMI) to internal and external clients for demand-driven programs. In addition, she provides thought leadership to the team and to the field on how to best use LMI, how to integrate LMI into more aspects of JFF work and for developing a significant body of work in this area.
Prior to joining JFF, Ms. Smith served in the Obama Administration as a Senior Policy Advisor with the Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA), where she focused on the implementation of data- and performance-related aspects of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. Her two primary projects were the implementation of a new online reporting system for state and grantee performance data and the development of the first national website for employment outcomes from training programs.
Before joining ETA, Ms. Smith spent eight years at the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJLWD) where she most recently served as Director of Workforce Research & Analytics, overseeing analysis of labor market data, workforce program performance, and evaluations of program outcomes in support of the state’s talent development efforts. She was the project director NJLWD’s two Workforce Data Quality Initiative grants and co-chaired the state’s P-20W Data Council. Ms. Smith also worked in education research for several years, including at the University of California Office of the President, focusing on policy and research related to financial aid.
With over 20 years’ experience in research and evaluation, she has an A.B. in Feminist Studies from Stanford University, and Master of Public Policy from the UC-Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy.
