Akeelah Harrell is a program manager at Jobs for the Future and is a member of the Building Economic Opportunity Group. In this role, she provides technical assistance to academic institutions, federal clients, and private partners.
Prior to JFF, MS. Harrell worked as a consultant for the Learning Policy Institute (LPI). During her time at LPI, she worked closely with the Educator Quality and Deeper Learning teams and co-authored two case studies about teacher preparation for deeper learning. Harrell has also served as an academic advisor at the Harlem Center for Education (HCE) in New York City. During her time at the HCE, she successfully piloted a high school mentoring program that connected students with mentors in their career field of interest. Through this position, she was able to identify the importance of support programs in successfully transitioning students to higher education.
Ms. Harrell received an M.A. in Sociology and Education, with a concentration in Education Policy from Teachers College, Columbia University and a B.A. with honors in Political Science from Howard University. Her research interests include college and career readiness, educational equity, and teacher effectiveness.
