Summary:
In January 2007, over 200 Boston-area leaders from schools, businesses, foundations, government, and community-based organizations gathered to explore solutions to the education and workforce challenges facing men of color. The occasion was Jobs for the Future’s “Making a Difference in Our Community” breakfast, held annually in commemoration of Martin Luther King's birthday.
The forum featured speakers from community-based organizations, government, and philanthropy: Suzanne Bump, the director of workforce development for Massachusetts; Dana Mohler-Faria, the Governor’s Special Adviser for Education; Rosa Smith, president of the Schott Foundation for Education; Keith Motley, vice president of business affairs at UMASS Boston and cofounder of Concerned Black Men of Massachusetts; Claudio Martinez, executive director of the Hyde Square Task Force; Leonardo Peguero and Akeem Saunders, also of the Hyde Square Task Force; and, from JFF, CEO and president Marlene B. Seltzer, director of human resources Rubin Williams, and vice president of communications and technology Carmon Cunningham.
