TRAVIS REINDL JOINS JFF FOR NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO IMPROVE COLLEGE ACCESS AND AFFORDABILITY

JFF will manage initiative, funded by Lumina Foundation for Education

Boston, MA: October 2, 2006 – Travis Reindl has joined the staff of Jobs for the Future, a Boston-based organization specializing in research, consulting, and public policy advocacy related to the advancement of youth and adults. In that capacity, he leads a major national initiative focused on improving college access and affordability. Mr. Reindl also contributes to other JFF initiatives that seek to ensure that all young people can obtain a quality high school and postsecondary education.

Funded by the Lumina Foundation for Education, the initiative follows on the foundation’s 2005 national summit on college costs. The initiative’s goal is to make higher education more affordable to students and the public without reducing its quality, and to ensure that a greater number of students attain degrees.

Prior to joining JFF, Mr. Reindl was on the staff of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities since 1997. At AASCU, he served as Director of State Policy Analysis and Assistant to the President. He led the tracking and analysis of state higher education policy.

Mr. Reindl also advocated for the association’s members on federal issues in tax policy and institutional accountability, and he served as the project director for Making Place Matter, an initiative funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to bolster regional stewardship efforts at state colleges and universities.

“The goal of the initiative is to help build the 21st century higher education system that our nation needs, a system that would provide expanded access, greater student success, and improved quality – all at a cost that students and the public can afford, “ said Marlene B. Seltzer, President and CEO of Jobs for the Future, which is managing partner of the initiative. “Mr. Reindl’s expertise and achievements are ideally suited to what will be needed to achieve that ambitious goal: designing and advocating for changes in institutional practice, public policy, and consumer behavior.”

Mr. Reindl has contributed to a number of journals and publications on higher education policy and management issues, particularly regarding student and institutional finance, state fiscal conditions, and university governance. He is frequently interviewed by regional and national news organizations.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to join this great organization and tackle the challenges associated with making college opportunity affordable for all Americans,” said Reindl. “It is not simply an idea for me-it is my personal story and that of every member of my family."

A fifth-generation native of South Dakota, Reindl holds a B.A. in government from the University of Notre Dame and an M.P.P. from the University of Maryland-College Park.
