Connected Learning Communities Initiative
In 1998, JFF launched the Connected Learning Communities Initiative. This multi-year initiative involved schools, employers, and other community allies to help young people achieve higher academic standards, expand their access to postsecondary education, and improve their career prospects. The Connected Learning Communities Initiative built upon JFF’s Benchmark Communities Initiative, using school-to-career as the framework for high school restructuring to improve district-level outcomes.
 
With a focus on urban schools, the Connected Learning Communities Network engaged districts, employers, and other community allies in strategies guided by two goals: 

  • Help young people achieve higher academic standards—by learning challenging subject matter in the context of solving real-world problems in the classroom, the community, and the workplace; and

  • Improve young people’s career prospects and expand access to postsecondary education—through career counseling and planning services, opportunities for career exploration, and high-quality communication among colleges, training institutions, and employers.
