Joel Vargas, Ed.D., works with the Early College High School
Initiative, examining the district and state policy implications
related to the initiative and exploring how state and federal policies
can improve the postsecondary attainment of underserved students.
Dr. Vargas has directed, initiated, and studied a variety of middle school and
high school programs designed to promote college going for
underrepresented students. He also has been a middle school teacher and
an editor and research assistant for the Civil Rights Project at
Harvard University. He was featured in the Chronicle of Higher
Education as one of “Higher Education's Next Generation of Thinkers.”
Dr. Vargas received a B.S. in Journalism from Boston University, and
earned his Ed.D. from Harvard University.
