“Some of the most promising
strategies for accelerating educational and career advancement lie
outside the large, slow-moving public systems of education and
workforce development. A catalytic organization, JFF has a special
ability to identify and expand the reach and impact of entrepreneurial
innovators wherever they may be found.”
Susan Goldberger is responsible for promoting the development, testing,
and scaling of new school and program designs that expand educational
and economic opportunity for low-income youth and adults. Dr.
Goldberger’s youth-related work focuses on the identification,
documentation, and promotion of effective small schools designs for
helping urban youth achieve college success. Her adult-related work
focuses on development and expansion of effective program models for
preparing and placing low-income adults in well-paying, career-ladder
jobs.
Previously, Dr. Goldberger directed JFF’s youth development and
education reform efforts, including a multi-city urban high school
reform initiative. She has also served as principal investigator on
several quantitative and qualitative evaluations of innovative
education and workforce models.
Prior to joining JFF, Dr. Goldberger founded and directed several
community-based organizations that advocated for improvements in health
care, child care, and economic opportunity for low-wage workers. She
holds a Ph.D. in social policy from Brandeis University and a B.A. from
Brown University.
