In 1998, JFF launched the
Connected Learning Communities Initiative. This multi-year initiative involved
schools, employers, and other community allies to help young people achieve
higher academic standards, expand their access to postsecondary education, and
improve their career prospects. The Connected Learning Communities Initiative
built upon JFF’s Benchmark Communities Initiative, using school-to-career as
the framework for high school restructuring to improve district-level outcomes.
With a focus on urban
schools, the Connected Learning Communities Network engaged districts,
employers, and other community allies in strategies guided by two goals:
