As part of the Early College High School initiative, Ms. Haynes manages the
initiative's annual reviews, technical assistance, and peer learning. Now based in Seattle, she works closely with west coast intermediaries as a strategic advisor. She has
researched and written about effective transitions to postsecondary
options for underserved populations; her research and development
projects are grounded in classroom practice and focus on youth
development issues.
Previous posts include national reform work with
the U.S. Secretary of Education's regional representatives at the
Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory and with the Corporation for
National Service as part of the America Reads Challenge. Ms. Haynes
also spent 12 years as a classroom teacher of underserved and
underperforming adolescents in a variety of institutions. She
co-produced two idea books for practitioners, Balancing Life and Work
and Teacher's Learning in the Community. In conjunction with the
America Reads Challenge, she co-authored Growing a Volunteer Tutor
Program, a compendium of best practices. She graduated with honors from
the University of the South and received her M.Ed. from Lesley College.
