JFF seeks candidates for the position of Senior Accountant in the five-person fiscal department of a rapidly growing non-profit organization. This person will report to the Controller, and will play lead roles in monthly close and accounting software management.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee timely monthly closing of accounting system. Monitor schedule of closing tasks. Calculate and process monthly closing entries, including expense allocations, overhead, and revenue releases. Produce trial balances and financial statements.
- Responsible for the development and review of complex financial and account reporting requirements. Assist controller with annual audit and tax schedules, annual financial statement preparation, and indirect cost negotiation calculations.
- Provides analyses of financial data needed in fiscal and budgetary planning. Track overhead and indirect cost rates. Perform monthly general ledger analysis.
- Responsible for balance sheet reconciliations, tracking capital assets, and calculating depreciation. Reconcile accruals and prepaids. Review payroll, tax, and benefits reconciliations. Manage grant accounting and receivables in accordance with FASB 116/117.
- Responsible for adherence to accounting policies and procedures. Identify control deficiencies. Recommend improvements in accounting systems and procedures.
- Become the in-house expert for the accounting software system. Understand the data structure. Create recurring journal entries, close the year.
Position Qualifications /Requirements:
- B.S. degree in accounting with 3-5 years responsible, professional experience that can attest to a comprehensive knowledge of broad-based financial accounting functions. Not-for-profit experience and CPA a plus. A strong knowledge of not-for-profit accounting, including related financial accounting standards. Demonstrates knowledge/experience of systems applications relating to financial accounting. Excellent communications, writing and interpersonal skills required.
- Proficiency with technology, data systems, and accounting software. Knowledge of Sage MIP a plus. Strong working knowledge of Excel required.
- Self-starter who can work effectively, both independently as well as part of a team. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing deadlines.
